National Parks in Caloundra on Queenslands Sunshine Coast
Mooloolah River National Park is a sample of the Mooloolah River landscape and wallum vegetation, is preserved in this 676ha park. There is water access via the Mooloolah River to this undeveloped park, which is abundant in bird life.
Conondale National Park 34,000ha. Wet eucalypt and subtropical rainforests are the main vegetation preserved in two parks. Both are managed as wilderness parks and forestry roads provide access to the parks for bushwalking.
Glass House Mountains National Park rise abruptly from the low plains just south of Caloundra and can be seen clearly from the Bruce Highway or closer still from the Glass House Mountains Tourist Drive. Drive to the Glass House Mountains Lookout to to get the full perspective of the mountains and the views from up high. Picnic and barbeque facilities are located alongside the lookout.
Mt Beerburrum has a sealed track to the top. Mt Ngungun provides a reasonably easy climb for most people. Only consider Mt Beerwah or Mt Tibrogargan if you are fit and an experienced climber. Beerwah and Tibrorgargan have peaceful picnic facilities.
Coochin Creek State Forest Park is set amidst exotic pine forests. Picnicking, swimming and fishing are popular pastimes in the peaceful surrounds. BBQ, picnic and camping facilities, as well as a boat ramp, are located in the park.
Booloumba Creek State Forest Park. Magnificent forests, deep gorges and scenic views. One of the most popular state forest camping and picnic spots in Queensland. Camping sites range from individual sites to open area camping. Facilities include toilets, showers, drinking water, fireplaces and public phone. No domestic animals are permitted at any of the sites. Booloumba Creek provides swimming all year round and the park has numerous walks for bushwalking and hiking. A self-serve camping system operates. Obtain your camping permit at the camping area, complete the form and deposit your camping fees (as cash, cheque or credit card number) in the box at the camping registration sign or hut. Access by conventional vehicle via the Kilcoy - Murgon Road, 40 km north of Kilcoy.
Nearby is Peter's Creek, a picnic area set among tall Sydney blue gums, featuring a forest walk that leads to rock pools. Also close by is Booloumba Falls and Gorge Picnic Area, complete with a walking track, swimming and sightseeing. Fig Tree walk is another location to visit. It features a sealed track specifically built to cater for wheelchair access.
Gheerulla State Forest - Gheerulla Camping and Trail Bike Area.
Located 2 km from the main road on the bank of Gheerulla Creek amidst rugged landscape with sheer cliffs and intriguing rock formations. Activities include swimming, bushwalking, hiking and trail bike riding. Riders must obtain a permit and must be licensed with registered motorcycles. Facilities are barbecues, drinking water, picnic tables and toilets. Firewood is supplied. Dogs are allowed overnight, however they must remain under control and on a leash at all times. A self-serve camping system operates. Obtain your camping permit at the camping area, complete the form and deposit your camping fees (as cash, cheque or credit card number) in the box at the camping registration sign or hut. Facilities are provided for rubbish disposal. Access by conventional vehicle via the Eumundi-Kenilworth Road, 6 km east of Kenilworth.
