Yandina is a Sunshine Coast hinterland town 120 kilometres north of Brisbane
Yandina is a Sunshine Coast hinterland town 120 kilometres north of Brisbane. In 1996 Yandina and district, including Dunethin Rock, Maroochy River, Valdora, North Arm, Yandina Creek, Cooloolabin, Bridges, Kiamba and Kulangoor, had an estimated 1620 households giving an estimate of 4860 people.
Electric power was connected to the town in 1940, water in 1961 and sewerage in 1983.
In a sub-tropical climate, Yandina’s temperatures vary from a summer mean maximum of 29 ° C (Celsius) to a mean minimum of 19° C and from a winter mean maximum of 20.8°C to a mean minimum of 6.8°C.
The annual average rainfall is 1688mm. The wettest year on record was 1893 with a total of 4401mm of rain. February 1893 was the wettest month with 2086mm.
Yandina itself has had many titles, river town, highway town, railway town and timber town. Currently, its fame is in being a ginger town and in being an attractive place for families.
It is the oldest town in the Maroochy Shire and its history is an important part of the development of the Maroochy Shire.
